Before reading the assigned article, I thought of UI design as the design of the user facing aspect of some sort of technology, ex: a website or app. I was somewhat unclear about how UX differed from UI. To me, UI design is user experience. The design of the interface influences the user’s experience of the interface and their experience of the product and/or brand.

After the reading, it is still a tad unclear, as it seems many people don’t fully agree on the term’s definitions. I gathered that UX is the background research and more foundational/technical parts of the project; more focused on the business aspect of the work. Whereas, UI is the stylistic design with some amount of research, but focused more on design and its relation to human psychology.

Overall, I feel like I have a better understanding of the differences between the two disciples, but even after the reading, there is still some fuzziness around the edges. This may clear as we head farther into the class and can experience the differences first hand.
